Test Shots

I took various photos exploring different poses and looks in order to get an idea for an image for my front cover, contents page and double page spread.

The first image was based on my cover page flat plan. I asked my model to be seductive and do a similar pose as on the flat plan.
This image has some aspects that were successful. It was successful as it followed my initial idea on my flat plan and portrayed the aspect I wanted it to. I used natural lighting as I was outside and didn’t find it suitable using other lights. I think that I used rules of third well in this image as the model fits at all points and is in focus.
It was also unsuccessful as I don’t think the image is as good as it could have been. To improve the image I could have used a green screen instead of just the outside door as it would have been easier to edit that way. Also the image presents the model as slightly messy and un-groomed as there are fly-a-way hairs that when removed from the image make it seem unrealistic. This could have been due to the wind not the actual models fault.

The second image was also based on my flat plan of my cover page. I asked my model to do a similar seductive pose but then turn slightly to the side in order to see whether this way the image would be more successful.
The image was successful as the image resembles my initial idea and also uses natural light to emphasise the models features, such as hair and eyes as they are both quite dark so they are emphasised more and therefore stand out. The image is also well focused and thought out.
However, I find that this image is also unsuccessful as I think that maybe my model looks a bit over exposed and bright, taking away some of her natural tan, which I didn’t really want as I specifically said in my flat plan that I wanted to have a bit of a
tanned model. Saying that, I could use a tool in Photoshop (burn tool) to darken her up, but I don’t know if it’ll look natural or not. I may have to investigate further.

In this image, I decided to use the green screen to make it easier for editing.

I thought this image was successful as it showed my model in direct view and used natural outdoor lighting to enhance her features and look. The model is looking straight at the camera, if I used this image wit would be effective as she could be making direct eye contact with the audience which therefore can capture the audience’s attention.
However this image is also unsuccessful because it cuts off the top of the head of the model so therefore doesn’t use the rule of third very well and makes the image look flat and unrealistic.
