The
reason I chose to ask this question was because it allowed me to separate the
both genders and to see whether they have different opinions that I can later
easily compare. The results showed me that more females than males took
part in my survey. This could affect my production of the magazine as the
answers to the other questions in the questionnaire could be quite gender bias,
therefor causing me to design a magazine that will appeal more to the female
gender rather than the male. This may be a problem because I wanted to get a
fair opinion from both genders to help me with the production of my magazine.
What is your age?
I chose to ask this question because it allowed me to
compare the different age group answers to the questionnaire. My results showed
that more people from the 15-18 age group answered my questionnaire than any
other. This gives me an idea for the target market I could be aiming my magazine
at. This information however, contradicts my original target market age group
of 17-25. However, I may be able to use the information from all of the age
groups given and still have my original target market so that it can stick with
my original image of my magazine.
What genre of music do you mostly listen to?

I chose to ask which genre my participants listened to most because it allowed me to see what type of genre is most popular. This would allow me to find a subject for my magazine. I found that in my survey most people preferred to listen to POP music. This could affect the type of bands or artists I choose to write about and include on my front cover and magazine.
When I looked closely at my results I found that more females (a total of 5 out of 17) chose pop rather than male (1 out of 9 chose Pop). It seemed that the male’s favorite choice was Electronic music.
How often do you read or buy music magazines?
If you never buy a Music magazine what’s the reason
for it?
I chose this
question to ask because it gave me insight in into the public's magazine buying
habits and whether or not they do buy music magazine and if no why.
Participant no.16,
said that he didn't often buy music magazines, because “they don’t interest”
him. The information I received was eye opening and it made me think of ways
that my music magazine could interest a variety of readers, such as having
stories or information that could interest a variety of readers, not only music stories.
I chose to ask this question because it allowed me to assess
the knowledge of the type of magazines my participants have noticed or heard
of. This is good information because this allows me to find the similarities
between the different magazines. And find what attracts the attention of a
potential buyer. I could look at the type of music magazine it is, the colour
scheme it has and the artists they choose to have on their front cover. This
allows me to design a magazine with the aspects that attract my participants.
The
most popular magazine that both female and males chose was “Rolling Stones” and
“Kerrang”. I found that both magazines had the same colour scheme of Red, Black
and White however had different genre types. Also I decided to check the second
most popular magazine and found that, it also had the same colour scheme of red
white and black. This indicates to me that, maybe what makes those magazines
most recognisable is their colour scheme so I for my own magazine I will have
to consider following a similar colour scheme![]() |

Who would you rather see on the cover of the magazine?
I decided to ask this question because it allowed me to get
an idea of what type of artist I should have on my own front cover. I chose a
wide variety of artist choices for my participants this way I could see what genre each artist belonged to and see what one was most popular. It also
allowed me to see whether female or male artists dominated my participants’
choice.
What my results showed me was that the majority votes from
the male participants was Skrillex, a music artist who creates tunes with fast
beats, whilst the female participants mostly chose artists such as Justin
Bieber and Lana Del Ray. These separate genre artists, don’t really give me a
clear idea on what kind of genre of music artist I should be using for my front
page. However, further research could allow me to get a much clearer idea.
What kind of colours do you expect to find on a Magazine front Cover?
I chose to
ask this question because it allows me to find what colours are most popular
and preferred by my participants. This could potentially give me my own colour
scheme for my own magazine cover. I asked my participants to choose up to 3 colours
and found that the most popular colours were Black, White and Red. I think that
the colours that my participants chose were good and I will most likely go with
that scheme as when I did research I found that most popular music magazines
have the same colour scheme.
Are you interested in freebies
within the magazine?
I asked my
participants if they wanted freebies or not in the magazine to see whether I
should include any or not. I found that the majority said “Yes”, with this
information I could think of and research different types of freebies that
would be suitable for my magazine and whether it is appropriate to include them
or not.Some
potential freebies that my participants suggested were; band/ artist posters,
gig tickets, wristbands, band merchandise and vouchers for musical events.
How much
would you pay for a good quality magazine?
The majority
of my participants chose £2.00- £2.99, however that could relate to the age of
my participants as the majority are under 18 and are most likely unemployed so
that could be a reason for the low price chosen. The second most popular price
my participants chose was £3.00-£3.99. Which I find that is more acceptable for
a high quality magazine. What I found interesting was that there was a
distinctive difference between my female and male participants. I found that my
female participants chose a higher price rather than the lower one and most of my
male participants chose the lower price. This could suggests that females have
more an understanding of value of an item than males.
