Looking
back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
At the beginning when I first started my preliminary project I struggled with using Photoshop as well as using the professional equipment (Cameras, Green Screen, Tripod etc.) and I only had basic editing skills which therefore made my preliminary project look unprofessional and very basic. Through my progression I learned how to use Photoshop to a professional standard. I learnt skills such as colour selecting (which I used in my final product on my double page spread), Adding and removing bits of an image known as content aware fill (prezi- remember to make it full screen!) as well as other various editing skills.
Other things that I've learnt along the way is how to use the digital cameras in manual setting so that I can change all the setting by myself and decide on the particular ISO or Aperture needed to take a successful image. I learnt the rules of third technique which allowed me to take good images which are in focus and use a good depth of field to make them stand out more. I also learnt how to successfully set up a 3 point lighting to make my model (who I am taking pictures of) stand out and minimise shadows on the person (which makes editing much easier).
I developed my research skills since doing the preliminary task.
During the preliminary task I designed the cover and contents page for a school
magazine. It wasn’t very successful because I hadn’t involved typical
conventions of a magazine as I wasn’t familiar with them. However, since starting
my actual project , I looked at products that were similar to the product I wanted
to produce (a music magazine) this helped me to learn about the different conventions
expected to be in a magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread.
Some of the conventions I found were;
